Installing Fuel Gauge
|
This installation involves disassembly of Fuel System Components and Fuel
under pressure. Follow all directions carefully to avoid risk of injury or
fire. Keep a Fire Extinguisher near by, in case of an emergency. Loosen off the Gas Cap to relieve any pressure inside the Fuel Tank. Remove the FI E/M fuse from the under hood fuse box. (this powers the fuel pump) Now to relieve fuel system pressure, start the car until it stalls. Using a 17mm Wrench, remove the bolt that secures the upper fuel line to the fuel filter. Wrap a rag around this bolt while loosening to catch any fuel still under pressure. Place the copper washer provided with the gauge with it's smooth side facing the Banjo Joint of the fuel line. Install the large bolt with the hole inside and tighten. This new bolt requires an 11/16 " wrench to tighten. Wrap the 90 degree fitting's threads with Teflon Tape and tighten, trying to leave it pointing towards the Drivers Side of the vehicle. Wrap the threads of the Gauge itself with Teflon Tape and tighten. Use a 1/2 " wrench and not your hands on the gauge to tighten it. Double check the tightness of all connections. Reinstall the FI E/M fuse. Tighten the Gas Cap. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" Position several times then leave it off. Check for fuel leaks and correct as necessary. Start the vehicle and let it run for several minutes checking that no fuel leaks develop. Check to make sure the Hood clears the Gauge before slamming the hood down.
